The
Women of the ELCA at Peace Lutheran Church meet on the fourth Tuesday
of each month at 1:00 PM. The WELCA Bible Study program is central to
the monthly programs as the women of the church seek to grow in faith,
affirm their gifts, and promote the ministry of Peace Church, the
Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America.

Will this quilt keep a family warm in a refuge camp
in Palestine? Will this school kit bring a big smile and allow
a little boy or girl to have supplies in school in India? Will
this health kit provide a person in the Sudan soap and toothpaste
for good hygiene? Will these items let people around the
world know that someone cares for them? The women at Peace do care
and we know that somewhere in the world some family, some little
child, will know that someone cares for them.
The women who meet each Tuesday morning at Peace
give their time making and tying 60 quilts a year and gathering
materials to fill 40 health and 40 school kits. These
items are given to Lutheran World Relief to be sent where ever there
is a need.
Those in need in our local community are not
forgotten. Quilts are made and given to families whose homes have
burned. Quilts are given to two homes in the area that are temporary
shelters for abused women and their children. And, we show our
graduating high school seniors that we love them and are so proud of
them by giving them a quilt made especially for them.
The women of the Christian Mission Group love each
other, love working together and love those people, whoever they
are, where ever that are, that receive their gifts.

Three times Jesus asked Peter if he
loved him and three times Peter answered ,"Yes, Lord."
Upon each response from Peter, Jesus replied the first time "Feed
my Sheep"; the second time, "Tend my Sheep",
and the third time, "Feed my Lambs". Taking these words
seriously, the Social Ministry Committee of Peace Lutheran Church
are busy attempting to discern the needs of our community and doing
what we can, with the help of God, to meet those needs to the best
of our ability. Our congregation has conducted a drive for
warm coats/sweaters and distributed them to the surrounding schools; we
also collected and delivered large supplies of food for a
number of families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. On an
ongoing basis we'll be collecting food on the third Sunday of each
month for the food bank, Food for Life in Clinton. We'll
continue to prayerfully seek ways to be 'little Christs' to our
neighbors. |
